The City of Chicago has reached a tentative settlement in regards to Bettie Jones, an innocent bystander who was killed by Officer Robert Rialmo in 2015.

A statement issued by Jones' estate attorneys read:

“While no amount of money can ever compensate Bettie Jones’ family for the loss of their mother, we fought for and the City of Chicago has agreed to pay an amount that is fair when compared to local and national police-involved shooting cases.”

“This settlement respects who Bettie Jones was, that she died unjustifiably and it will allow the Jones family to begin with the healing process and move forward with their lives."

Jones, 55, was a churchgoing grandmother, shot by a bullet intended for another person. The following settlement is among the largest ever for a wrongful shooting by Chicago police. The proposed amount will require City Council approval.
