Quentin Miller became a household name when Meek Mill outed Drake for having ghostwriters and named Miller as the pen responsible for some of Drake's tracks on If You're Reading This It's Too Late. A reference track Miller recorded for Drake was leaked, giving credence to Meek's claims and Miller found himself at the forefront of a major controversy.
That was all back in 2015, fast-forward three years and again Miller finds himself at the center of a beef between two rap stars. A couple weeks ago, Pusha T released his album DAYTONA and on the final song, "Infrared," he took aim at Drake and those ghostwriter claims. “It was written like Nas, but it came from Quentin,” Push rapped. What followed was a sparring match between Drake and Push that fans have been waiting years for, albeit a short match.
Drake responded to Push with "Duppy Freestyle," and elaborated on his relationship with Miller, saying: “And as for Q, man I changed his life a couple times / Ni**a was at Kroger working double time / Ya'll acting like he made the boy when I was trying to help the guy.” In a since-deleted tweet, Miller poked fun at the lyric and noted that he worked at Publix, not Kroger. When asked about his relationship with Drake, Miller simply told Rolling Stone, "We’re cool.”
Miller says he is not taking sides in the Drake/Pusha matter, "Because there’s a lot of behind the scenes on it." But he is tired of being mentioned.
"I kind of am tired of it being brought up. People want to give me credit for his whole catalog, but that’s not true. I was inspired by him, just like everybody else. We collaborated, and that’s that. The way things played out, I don't know if anyone made all the right decisions in all the right scenarios."
Miller compares his big moment being sullied to the infamous incident between Kanye West and Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV VMAs.
"Ultimately, I wanted people to just see that project as a great project. I didn't want all that negative shit. That was the first major thing I was ever a part of. It was sort of like my Taylor Swift moment, and Meek Mill kind of Kanye-ed me [Laughs]. I got Kanye-ed by Meek, but it’s all good."
Miller released his own track that got lost amongst the melee, "Destiny Freestyle" where he expressed his desire to play more in the background.
"I don't even want the crown, I'm just doing me/Mike Will, Metro, they 'bout as old as me/Wanna be mentioned with them not just some old beef/If You're Reading This was like 2015, I lost a leg in '16/Look, if you can't tell by now, I ain't 'bout the hype/I create waves, I'm not the wave ridin' type."
