The internet is still undefeated. MSNBC host Joy Reid apologized Friday for comments she made on her old, now-defunct website, including a post showing Sen. John McCain's face photoshopped on the body of a mass shooter.

According to reports, in an October 2007 post from the news host's old blog, The Reid Report, she satirized McCain's 2007 presidential campaign promise to “follow Osama bin Laden to the gates of hell.” The post includes an image of McCain's head photoshopped onto Seung-Hui Cho's body, the man who went on a shooting rampage in April 2007 at Virginia Tech that leaving 32 dead.

Reid addressed the controversy in a statement released Friday:

"To be clear, I have the highest respect for Sen. McCain as a public servant and patriot and wish him and his family the best. I have reached out to Meghan McCain and will continue to do so. She is a former on-air colleague and I feel deeply for her and her family," Reid said.

Reid did not discuss the authenticity of the photoshopped image of McCain in her statement. She said beginning in 2005, she started writing "thousands of posts on the issues of the day," the statement read. "There are things I deeply regret and am embarrassed by, things I would have said differently and issues where my position has changed."
