A Republican candidate for a local government seat in South Carolina once showed up to a Holloween party in blackface and pictures that were taken of him on that day have come back to haunt him.

Kershaw County Council hopeful, Brent Tomlinson, remembers the 2008 shindig he attended while a sophomore at the University of South Carolina. He remembers it well, and to his determination, memories from the occasion are pretty sweet. In fact, Tomlinson says that even after pitching his bid for the County Council seat, he did happen to skim past the photo on his Facebook page once or twice, but never thought to take it down.

"I think that’s one thing wrong with politicians: They try to hide everything they do," Tomlinson reportedly told a local SC news publication after receiving outrage over the image. "I never in a million years really thought that would get a negative connotation on it."

The shot in question is of Tomlinson dressed as one of the Jamaican bobsledders from the 1993 movie, "Cool Runnings." He is wearing the national colors seen on the Jamaican flag in the pic, but for obvious reasons, many believe he went too far by painting his body black.

Tomlinson has been in a tight race with a field of GOP prospects that include Janice Caldwall, Jimmy Crissman, and David Snodgrass. He has reportedly stated that he thinks he knows which one of his three opponents had their camp expose the post, but he will not say.

Tomlinson has since removed the image from his social media pages.
