J. Cole is undoubtedly one of the leaders of the new school. Along with Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and Childish Gambino, Cole has consistently released astounding music that has longevity. His most recent album, KOD, is a masterpiece that addresses the drug culture in hip-hop and the generational divide. Trippie Redd, one of the up and coming rappers in the younger generation, recently sat down with Montreality and spoke about his love for Cole's music.
"I grew up listening to J. Cole," Redd stated. "I just knew when he first came out, [he's] one of the GOATs. He's hard, regardless of what you think. He is a rapper. He gives you nothing but bars and lyrical play, which is amazing. His lyrical play is distinct. He'll say some real s**t and he'll play around with it and give you the real shit the whole time."
He continued on to say that he doesn't really enjoy listening to new rappers. "I really appreciate him and f**k with his music, because he's doing something for the culture that a lot of other people aren't really doing." Redd them imitates a hyped up nonsense rapper to show how he thinks most of the game sounds right now. "I want to hear bars sometimes. I don't just listen to y'all n****as. I play y'all song like three songs like that and the rest of the time I'm playing rock music. J Cole, motherf***in' Kanye."
