Diddy has done his best to encourage the formation of a movement capable of fostering 'Black Excellence' among the diverse children of the African diaspora, but it has become apparent to him that not all people of 'a darker hue' have fully embraced the concept.
Diddy took to social media on Sunday, May 20, to address those who may have gotten his message twisted. In a video addressed to all "light skin, high yellow, caramel and redbone brothers and sisters," the 48-year-old hip-hop mogul implies that those who may be identifying as Black when they have no other choice, need to be having that same energy when they've got the world in their hands. Diddy said "Yes, Y'all a**es is Black, and so when something bad happens your a** is Black, ok? Now, when something great happens, your a** is Black."
Diddy never specified whether or not any specific situation may have served as motivation for him to put such a PSA out, but he did express the need to confront the issue of colorism in addition to any misconceptions that he may be encouraging a "divide and conquer" mentality.
"I just thought that it was important to make it clear. So when I say Black excellence, I mean everybody, ok? So I just need all my light skin brothers and sisters to, you know, really join the movement. For real. Why Y'all acting like... don't act light skin, now. For real. Black excellence!" he said.
