Donald Trump has been patting himself on the back prematurely when it comes to the proposed meeting with North Korea. The meeting would be the first time North Korea and America have sat down together in decades to openly discuss the nuclear weapons program being utilized in the secluded country.
Recently, North Korea threatened to suspend the meeting, citing Sout Korean military drills in collaboration with US troops that leader Kim Jong Un suspects are in preparation for an attack. Now, North Korea is threating to back out once again.
According to USA Today, a North Korean vice foreign minister named Kim Kye Gwan released a statement where he revealed that the meeting would be called off if it was decided to be too "one-sided." Gwan wrote in his statement, "We are no longer interested in a negotiation that will be all about driving us into a corner and making a one-sided demand for us to give up our nukes and this would force us to reconsider whether we would accept the North Korea-U.S. summit meeting.”
The South Korean government also had several high-level meetings planned with the North Korean government that were canceled. South Korean news agency Yonhap claims that the North Koreans canceled the meetings and stated, "the United States will also have to undertake careful deliberations about the fate of the planned North Korea-U.S. summit in light of this provocative military ruckus jointly conducted with the South Korean authorities."
