Xzibit remembers a time when gang banging in hip-hop was viewed strictly as a West Coast thing; prior to artists outside of Cali flagging and throwing up signs. He doesn't envision the traditions that are rooted in Compton and LBC street life ever dying, and if anything sees the influence it's had nationally. But it draws his concern when he sees a mockery being made out of the life.
During a recent stop through Big Boy's Neighborhood on BigBoyTV, X-to-the-Z was asked his thoughts on how some of hip-hop's younger personalities and whether or not he feels they've become disrespectful of tradition.
The first thing that came to the veteran rapper and actor's mind was one video that social media star Woah Vicky did in particular. He described how she flashed a gun at the camera and made threats towards Snoop Dogg, and what he saw was a disconnect.
"You know, I think, it's too much too fast for some of these people... and they don't realize that there's consequences to all those things that you're doing and saying... And, I think that the lines are getting blurred between entertainment and risking your life," he said around the 23:12 mark in the above video.
As Xzibit underscored how intense the climate has become with elders in the game being put in compromising positions, whereby they must weigh whether or not to allow themselves to be pulled into situations that may not prove to be a good look for them, Big Boy nodded in agreement.
He said that he doesn't imagine a figure with as much to lose as Snoop would involve himself too deeply in such banter, but will wind up having to reach out to insist that some of his more loyal friends and followers stand-down and not be lured into a trap on his behalf.
"We've gotta stop letting people be that comfortable too," Big Boy went so far as to say while concurring with each point the homie made.
