According to reports, TIDAL has been accused of "deliberately faking" streaming numbers for some of the A-list artists like Beyonce and Kanye West. The original report coming from a Norweigan publication stated that the streaming platform manipulated numbers to generate larger royalty shares for certain artists. Kanye West was at the center of discussion with the nontraditional release of Life of Pablo that became a Billboard charting album and certified platinum.
TIDAL has since shot down the allegations claiming that them to be 'ridiculous' adding:
"This is a smear campaign from a publication that once referred to our employee as an 'Israeli Intelligence officer' and our owner as a 'crack dealer.' We expect nothing less from them than this ridiculous story, lies, and falsehoods. The information was stolen and manipulated and we will fight these claims vigorously."
