A woman who was trapped under a car that jumped a street curb and crashed in Washington, D.C. early this week, is praising the dozen or so good samaritans who came to her rescue, calling them "angels."
Ginger Weygand was one of two people who wound up pinned beneath a silver Chevy Malibu that swerved onto the sidewalk near 9th Street and K Street NW, on Tuesday, April 24. Witnesses say that the accident was caused by a pickup truck that cut the car off while making a left-hand turn. The driver lost control of the reckless move and in an instance wound up knocking over newspaper dispensers and trash cans before being stopped by a pole.
Weygand, who was visiting D.C. for a math convention, says that she was so caught off guard by the accident that she initially didn't even realize that she had been run over. "I thought I fell at first, but the car landed on me, and I really thought I was going to die," she says.
Video collected from the dashcam of a taxi that was positioned to capture the incident shows more than a dozen people rush over to lift the car as Weygand's screams are heard, and her hand can be seen waving for help. In working together, they were successful in boosting the 3,000-pound machine and getting her out.
In total, four people suffered non-life threatening injuries in the accident.
