Japan has always been known as the leader of futuristic high-tech. This time they came up with something no one has ever seen before.

On Wednesday, "a Transformers-style, humanoid robot that can shapeshift into a sports car in about 60 seconds was unveiled in Japan," reports Reuters.

According to the sources, the new extremely modern and sophisticated device was named "J-deite RIDE."

The man behind the robot is Kenji Ishida, CEO of Brave Robotics and a long-term admirer of anime movies about robots that can merge or go through a transformation.

Ishida revealed in the interview with Reuters Television, "I grew up believing that robots had to be capable of such things, which became my motivation to develop this robot."

J-deite RIDE was designed in blue and white. It is 3.7-metres (12 feet) tall and is capable of carrying two passengers at a time while transforming itself into a car or humanoid form.

Ishida claims that while the robot might be perceived as an "expensive toy," it is indeed an inspiration to others.

"The RIDE was co-developed with Asratec, a robot consulting firm, and amusement ride manufacturer Sansei Technologies," reports Reuters.

Is this a comic book fans dream come true? Can this robot indeed meet everyone's, including Ishida, expectations?
