A truck driver, James Matthew Bradley Jr., was sentenced to life in prison for his role in a human-trafficking plot that left 10 people dead. Bradley was the driver of a truck that was transporting illegal immigrants from Mexico and Guatemala to Texas. Police found 39 immigrants in the back and pronounced 8 dead on the scene after gaining access to the cargo storage on the back of Bradley's truck.

When police unlocked the cargo-hold, they found people covered in vomit, blood, and feces. The judge told Bradley that he treated those people worse than cattle or livestock, adding, “it could only be equated with torture.”

Bradley attempted to appeal toward being granted some leniency by saying he had no idea of what was happening and that he only moved the cargo his boss asked. He added that he has a low IQ and was susceptible to the order of his boss and other smugglers. However, the judge and prosecution both agreed that Bradley had knowledge of what was really going on.
