An Uber driver is blaming the company’s GPS system for wrong directions after his car ended up stuck on a concrete staircase in San Francisco on Monday, March 26

According to Business Insider, a driver, identified as “Fred,” got his white Toyota Camry stuck on a pedestrian sidewalk by neighboring Safeway supermarket shortly a little after 1 pm.

At the time of the incident, the driver had two passengers in the car. However, no one was injured as result of the mishap, according to KRON4. Police described the situation as a “freak accident.”

While this incident seems to be human error, it comes after Uber decided to suspend a pilot program in the city using self-driving vehicles after a woman in Tempe, Arizona was killed.

On March 18, 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg was struck by Volvo XC90 as it was in "autonomous" mode. Herzberg was traveling across the street as she was hit by the car going 40 miles per hour. In released portions of dashcam video of the event, the human safety driver was distracted and unable to stop the car from hitting Herzberg.

On Monday (March 26), Arizona Governor Doug Ducey ordered that program is stopped in the state entirely, according to Bloomberg.

“Improving public safety has always been the emphasis of Arizona’s approach to autonomous vehicle testing, and my expectation is that public safety is also the top priority for all who operate this technology in the state,” Ducey wrote in a letter to Uber’s CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. “Arizona will not tolerate any less than an unequivocal commitment to public safety.”
