Following the release of a sit-down interview with the NRA, Killer Mike has received significant backlash from many across social media and beyond. The timing of the piece seemed to be what drew the ire of most as it coincided with March for Our Lives protest on Saturday, March 24.

In the interview, Killer Mike offered his feelings on gun ownership for African Americans and the movement being started by the survivors of the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Following the release of the Interview, Vic Mensa took to Twitter to challenge the Atlanta rapper to an open discussion on gun control.

Yet, Killer Mike is standing by his position on gun ownership despite the backlash. "That org used my words to Black America to inflame organizers of this worthy march but i ain’t their rep. I’m just a black guy who is pro 2A & told others to be. Also it was a week Old. Love & Respect." Killer Mike tweeted early Sunday in response to a fan.

Run the Jewels’ El-P took to Twitter Monday to defend bandmate Killer Mike with a lengthy message. “Despite our many differences (and I promise you they are vast and often hotly debated), I’ve been around the block and I know a good person when I see one.” El-P wrote. “I know who’s gonna stand next to me and next to you and fight. If you’ve been watching Mike over the years you know it too. If you haven’t, look closer. Beyond Twitter moments and anger and hot takes. You’ll see it. No I can not and will not ever turn my back on this man. He wouldn’t turn his on me. Or you.”
