Fans of "Chicago Fire" were saddened to learn that one of the show's stars has died. The family of DuShon Monique Brown has confirmed that she passed from natural causes just after 12 p.m. on Friday, March 23. She was 49-years-old.

Brown was most widely known for her role as Connie on the hit NBC show. She played the assistant to Chief Boden who was responsible for bringing balance to a cast of co-workers who often found themselves drawing controversy. The former Empire, Prison Break, and Shameless actress commanded the role since 2012.

Prior to taking on television, Brown generated acclaim as an actress in such stage plays as MPAACT, Victory Gardens, Lookingglass, Drury Lane, Pegasus Players, and Goodman. Brown's rep, Robert Schroeder, expressed the grief that many felt from the news, saying, "We are devastated by the loss of a very talented and kindhearted soul. DuShon was a film, television, commercial and voice-over actress who also graced the stages of many Chicago theaters. She brought laughter and joy to many and will be greatly missed."

The executive producer of Chicago Fire also expressed condolences in a statement that read, “The Chicago Fire family is devastated to lose one of its own. Our thoughts and prayers are with DuShon's family and we will all miss her.”

An autopsy will be done on Saturday to determine the exact cause of Brown's death.
