One of the many fantastic feats the Obama administration accomplished was commuting several inmates sentences, especially those that were wrongfully accused, or arrested for non-violent crimes and sentenced to decades upon decades in prison. One of those men was a rapper named Tampa Tony.

In 2016, President Obama granted clemency to 72 federal inmates. He gave over 940 commutations to inmates, including 324 prisoners who were serving life sentences. Rapper Tampa Tony was one of the inmates granted clemency.

Tony was sentenced to life for non-violent drug charges in March of 2008. He served 104 months of his sentence before Obama stepped in. The former president reduced his life sentence to a punishment of 240 months.

Tony was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and possession with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine. A confidential informant was used to set up Tony and his crew. He was arrested on October 12, 2006, after accepting a delivery of 24 kilos of cocaine from the CI. The new commuted sentence left 150 months on Tony's prison bid. He will be released in 2020.
