Diddy believes that a fundamental change has to occur in the way African Americans fight for change.
During an in-depth interview with GQ, Diddy talked about his life and the many projects he juggles all while being one of the top businessmen in the entertainment.
When asked what keeps him moving at the pace he does despite achieving so much already, Diddy answered, “My culture. I want to be an authentic, unapologetic warrior for black culture and the culture of the street and how it moves. My thing is most importantly to change the narrative of the black race. I can't relate to anything that isn't about that.”
After telling the interviewer that he’s developing an app that will help users find local black-owned businesses in their neighborhood, Diddy stated that he’s looking to see his people become economically secure. “This is not about taking away from any other community,” Diddy said. “But the application will make it possible for us to have an economic community. It's about blacks gaining economic power.”
Alongside economic development, Diddy spoke on the African American community establishing new methods to spark change. “I don't believe in passiveness,” he said. “At some point there has to be some kind of fight. I feel like we've done a lot of marching. It's time to start charging.”
