A short video posted to social media on March 8th went viral and started a national debate regarding Bruno Mars. In the video, one female berates Bruno Mars for race appropriation.

"Bruno Mars 100% is a cultural appropriator. He is not black, at all, and he plays up his racial ambiguity to cross genres," stated activist Seren Sensei in the video.

She continued on to state, "He does not create it, he does not improve upon it, he does not make it better. He's a karaoke singer, he's a wedding singer, he's the person you hire to do Michael Jackson and Prince covers. Yet Bruno Mars has an Album of the Year Grammy and Prince never won an Album of the Year Grammy."

Sensei's polarizing comments have reached every corner of the internet, especially in the wake of Mars' recent Grammy sweep. Well-respected legendary producer 9th Wonder added his voice to the debate, jumping on Twitter to stand-up for Mars. "So many loopholes in this Bruno Mars situation," began 9th.

He continued on to write, "So what do we want...in a culture that is Universal as math...how do we expect to for our culture now to be accept by mainstream (in which half of y’all don’t even recognize brilliance in artists UNTIL it’s slammed in your face by mass media..)..and NOT INFLUENCE the masses."

His Twitter rant went on for more than twenty tweets.
