An employee for the United States Secret Service who resides in Maryland has been arrested on child porn charges.

After his arrest, Jeffrey Litteral, 52, of Denton, Maryland, has been charged with possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography, possession of obscene material and distribution of obscene material. Litteral is being held without bond after initially seeing a court commissioner.

According to MSP, an investigation began after a Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division investigator received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about possible child pornography being uploaded on the internet. Authorities confirmed that the material was child pornography and initiated the investigation.

Reports state that the investigation led to the identification of Litteral, a United States Secret Service employee. Police say the United States Secret Service was notified during the investigation, and they helped the Maryland State Police during the investigation and arrest.

According to the Associated Press, a statement by the U.S. Secret Service says Litteral's security clearance has been suspended and he's been placed on administrative leave. The statement specifically says, "All Secret Service issued equipment has been retrieved and the employee’s access to all Secret Service facilities is terminated. These allegations, if proven true, are intolerable and are condemned by the Secret Service," the agency said.
