As a fast food joint that has long prided itself on serving fresh beef in its meals, Wendy's has had a bone to pick since news broke last year that McDonald's had plans to discontinue its use of freezer stored patties in some of its burgers.
After Mickey D's formally announced the rollout, those working social media for Wendy's went full-on savage and unleashed all of its resentment on Twitter.
"Hey @McDonalds, heard the news. Happy #NationalFrozenFoodDay to you for all the frozen beef that’s sticking around in your cheeseburgers," a tweet that popped up on Wendy's page on Tuesday (March 6), read. It was then followed by a series of unappealing photos that the company posted of what are supposed to be McDonald's burgers in their current state.
After addressing their rival with such condescending phrases as "poor thing," Wendy's incorporated some pretty cold wordplay to quip that one of the menu's items "doesn't have a slice of cheese to keep it warm" and to add that "bacon doesn't unfreeze the beef" in regards to another one of its popular items.
