It proved only a matter of time before President Trump took aim at the Academy Awards when he kicked his morning off on Tuesday (March 6) by tearing the occasion down as a bust.

“Lowest rated Oscars in HISTORY. Problem is, we don’t have Stars anymore - except your President (just kidding, of course)!” the President wrote in his first tweet of the day. The comment drew its usual mixed reaction, with those from among his core base in large part concurring while dissenters ripped him apart over the manner in which he continues to utilize his social media platform.

A couple of celebrities posted their own retorts against the second-year Commander-In-Chief, with the most notable response coming from Oscar's host Jimmy Kimmel. Kimmel turned the tables on Trump by using his own metric to judge him the same. “Thanks, lowest rated President in HISTORY,” he fired back. Last year Kimmel found himself clapping at the President in much the same manner, when he came to the defense of Meryl Streep, who Trump called "overrated," following her riveting awards show speech.

For the record, the Academy's 90th-anniversary showing did give ABC a leg up on CBS and NBC by outperforming the Grammys and the Golden Globe Awards, respectively. But the show nevertheless indeed underperformed past airings, by drawing a nine-year low with 26.5 million viewers.
