It's been thirty years since we were introduced to a performance silhouette that has since turned into sneaker royalty in the Air Jordan III and we've seen a plethora of different colorways hit the market in honor of Mike's third signature sneaker only a couple of months into the new year. Now, it looks like South Korea is next to get their very own rendering of the classic sneaker.
The 'Seoul' Air Jordan III was originally spotted on the feet of the South Korean FIBA coach, Jae Hur, and has a remained a mystery until now. The color scheme of the sneaker is inspired by the Taegukgi [or South Korean flag] and features a white tumbled leather base in representation of peace and purity [a representation of the Korean flag as well] while 서울 [Seoul] embroidery can be found in black on the left inner tongue and the motto of the 1988 Olympic Summer Games 화합과 전진 [Harmony & Progress] can be found embroidered on the inner right tongue of the sneaker while the classic Nike AIR branding can be found at the heel of the sneaker in commemoration of the OG rendition of the kicks.
The leather quality of this particular sneaker appears to be very high and was designed in Nike's Innovative Kitchen by both Tinker Hatfield and Dan Sunwoo who had this to say about the curation process of the kicks, “I grew up a sneakerhead in Seoul and I wanted to create a shoe that pays homage to the creative energy of the city. Now is the perfect time, building on the momentum of the winter games and the love Korean consumers have for Jordan Brand.”
The Air Jordan III 'Seoul' is expected to hit shelves exclusively at the Jordan Hongdae location and online at Nike.com.kr for those of you hoping to get your hands on a pair of the rare kicks. Peace to all of our Korean brothers, sisters, and sneakerheads overseas and let us know your thoughts on these joints in the comments.
