UFC president Dana White has confirmed that they will be stripping Conor McGregor of his UFC title in the next coming weeks. White told TMZ that McGregor would be stripped of his championship as the announcement of the fight between Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov. Ferguson and Nurmagomedo will fight for the undisputed lightweight strap at UFC 223.

"I said in the press conference that fight will be for the title," White said when asked about taking McGregor's belt. "It is not for the interim title that fight is for the title." White also spoke about the potentiality of a rematch between McGregor and Mayweather.

He says that "the only way a rematch makes sense in that fight is in the UFC." White also says that both sides are talking openly but that there are no negotiations in progress at the time. Floyd has been teasing the speculation of a rematch in the Octagon posting videos of himself training in the ring.

The ultimate question is whether the UFC which pays its fighters considerably less than that of the 9-figure money Mayweather is used to can offer that to the legendary boxer. While White acknowledges that Floyd doesn't need the money, that the payout all depends on the draw of viewership for such an event. It shouldn't be the cash Mayweather is worried about but his "skills".
