The formation of "super teams" in the NBA has forced the Association to question the format of the playoffs. Speculation around the league has been building, and talks of changing the playoffs to a top-teams overall format are drifting around. That would force several teams in the Eastern Conference out of the playoffs, which would then be dominated by Western conference teams with much better records.

The idea is to make the playoffs more competitive, but Lebron James doesn't believe that is such a good idea. Speaking with reporters, James stated, "I think our league has been built the right way as far as when it comes to the postseason."

In response to the idea that "super teams" are forcing the speculated playoff format change, he said: “In the ’80s you had the Lakers, who dominated the league at one point, then you had Boston that dominated the league. In the ’90s you had Chicago that dominated the league. San Antonio also had its run. We had our run in the East with Miami, Golden State is having their run. It just changes the landscape of the history of the game, if you start messing with seedings and playoffs."
