Last Week, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr addressed the topic of gun control following yet another school shooting.“Well, nothing has been done. It doesn’t seem to matter to our government that children are being shot to death day after day in schools.” Kerr said, following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The gunman, 19-year-old Nikola Cruz, murdered 17 people after opening fire with an AR-15.

Since the senseless tragedy, young people in the state of Florida have called upon government officials to enact legislative measures to curb gun violence. On Tuesday, amidst survivors of the Stoneman Douglas school shooting, Florida state House lawmakers struck down a bill which would ban assault weapons and extended magazine clips.

In response, students across Florida joined Douglas High School in protest, demonstrating that their push for gun control will not let up. The rally of thousands of children did not go unnoticed by the Warriors coach. During a pregame interview Wednesday, Kerr let it be known that he’s proud of the direction the youth are taking on the matter.

"I think It’s phenomenal." Kerr said, "I think what those kids are doing is heroic, it’s heartfelt, and I think it’s the beginning of some change. I really believe that. I’m amazed every time I see them on TV or online. It’s heartbreaking but inspiring all at once.”
