Donald Trump famously withdrew the Golden State Warriors' customary championship invitation to the White House last Fall, after several players expressed their distaste for the president. Many of Golden State's players refused to go to the White House anyway, but the team's trip to D.C. is still included in their budget.

On February 27th, the NBA champions will still visit Washington D.C., but they have chosen to spend the day with local children. Head Coach Steve Kerr stated that he left it up to the players to decide how they wanted to spend their time in the nation's capital, and the players elected to have an event where local kids could interact with the athletes at a venue where the media will be strictly prohibited.

Speaking with ESPN, Coach Kerr stated "It's their championship. They got disinvited to the White House, so it's up to them what they wanted to do. So they made their plans. I want the players to have a good day and to do something positive and to enjoy what they're doing."

"At the end of the day, it's about us celebrating a championship, so there's no point in getting into the political stuff and all that," Golden State star Draymond Green told ESPN.
