The AR-15 is the most widely debated gun in America, and it has been for the last six years. A .223-caliber Bushmaster XM-15 version of the AR-15 rifle was used to slaughter 20 first-graders at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The popular rifle was also used to gun down over 50 people in the Las Vegas shooting last year. Yet again, the AR-15 was used during the massacre that took place at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida last week. Still, the rifle keeps getting more popular among gun owners.

Several gun shops in Florida are reporting an increase in the sales of the AR-15 rifle. NBC 2 spoke to Aaron Forum, who is the owner of the Shoot Center in Cape Coral. Forum stated that sales of the AR-15 increase by 30 percent following the Parkland shooting. His reasoning behind the sales spike was fear, but it's not the fear of potential shooters driving the increase.

“Most people understand especially when a tragedy like this happens that if enough lawmakers get together, it’s only a matter of time before we see another ban again. It may not be this year, but I think in the future it’s definitely a possibility," stated Forum.
