Lamar Odom told Johnny Manziel to keep his “higher power first” when attempting to give him advice on how to stay sober.

Manziel, who intends to make a comeback to the NFL, severed ties with many of his contacts early in his career due to substance abuse. Odom thinks it’s possible for him to get his life back on track as long as he avoids the common traps. “Just put his higher power first and he’ll be alright. Whoever his God may be,” said Odom to TMZ this week. “He’ll be alright. I’m a big-time fan.” Odom explained that life sometimes takes people down to the depths of despair, but bouncing back is not impossible.

Manziel spoke about his comeback a bit during an appearance on Good Morning America earlier this year. He also addressed being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. “At the end of the day I can’t help that my wires are a little bit differently crossed than yours,” he said. “I can’t help my mental makeup of the way that I was created. But I know if I stay on these meds and I continue to do what I am doing right now … I think my dad, my mom, I think [girlfriend] Bre Tiesi], would all agree that they see a drastic change.”
