Bryan “Birdman” Williams’ journey from convict to the head of the Cash Money Records empire is now displayed for the world to see in a brand new doc made available exclusively on Apple Music.

The film, Before Anythang: The Cash Money Story, was released on the platform this week and highlights the rise of the New Orleans-based record label that boasts of 1 billion records sold. The documentary seems to focus on Birdman and his transition from street hustler to music mogul.

Cash Money burst on the scene in the mid to late 1990s and spawned stars like B.G., Juvenile, Turk and a very young Lil Wayne in its early days. In the latter part of its existence, Cash Money birthed child labels like Weezy’s YMCMB which then gave rise to Drake and Nicki Minaj.

Out of all the hip-hop labels that started around that time, it is one of the few that is not only in still in existence but is still thriving at a high level with three of hip-hops biggest stars still signed there.

More information on the doc was made available via press release. “This in-depth documentary explores the journey of one of the most successful rap label owners and entrepreneurs in modern music history,” read the release. “From father; from the streets of New Orlean to traveling the world, Bryan [Williams] created the world he envisioned as a boy. His is the great American success story. From humble beginnings emerges the legend, this is the story of how it all began.”
