Some people find themselves in the most insane circumstances. A mentally unstable man became one of those people after he barricaded himself inside of a police car for nearly two hours armed with an AR-15 Tuesday night.

33-year-old Stephen Matthews lived at the Morningside Recovery Center in Garden Grove, California, and suffered from a psychotic episode before police were called. Employees at the Recovery Center called authorities for help when Matthews began to act erratically. Police responded to the call, and an ambulance accompanied them to tend to the unhinged Matthews.

When law enforcement arrived, they witnessed Mattews acting unstable and eating grass and leaves in the area. He was put in the back of a police vehicle, uncuffed because he was not under arrest. Somehow, Matthews discovered that the partition separating the front and back of the police vehicle was broken. He reached into the front, gained access to a loaded AR-15, and began to fumble with the weapon. In the surveillance video, Matthews can be seen chambering rounds while looking around suspiciously. He refused to leave the vehicle and even shot the rifle after mistakenly hearing the police call for an air strike.

After a two hour stand-off, Matthews was arrested.
