Some crimes will make the inmates of a jail hate you, while others might make you a popular prisoner. Cop killer Shomari Legghette was warmly welcomed by the detainees at the Cook County jail as he was walked in by a brigade of police officers. Legghette shot Chicago Police Cmdr. Paul Bauer six times after a struggle in the streets.

Prior to the shooting of Bauer, officers were investigating another recent shooting approached Legghette. He fled before the cops could ask him any questions, leading law enforcement on a foot chase. Pursuing officers radioed for backup, and Bauer responded to the call. The Police Commander chased down and engaged Legghette, wrestling him to the ground before being shot in the head, neck, back, chest and wrist.

Seconds after the shooting, police found Bauer bleeding to death and Legghette laying on the floor neat him. Police Cmdr. Paul Bauer was the highest-ranking officer killed in the line of duty in Chicago in over ten years.

In the Cook County jail's surveillance video, inmates gather together to get a look at Legghette. As a squad of seven police officers escorts Legghette past the barred detainee cell, the prisoners clapped for the killer.

Cook County jail officials plan to discipline the detainees involved.
