According to local news reports, a sheriff’s deputy in Cumberland County, North Carolina was exposed on camera earlier this week spraying a high school student in the face with pepper spray.

The local news station WRAL reported that the sheriff's deputy was at the high school to break up the fight before it got any more physical. Reports say the fight was between two female students. School officials said that at some point a 16-year-old boy attempted to make himself a part of the altercation.

However, after the boy interjected the deputy got into a verbal dispute with the boy. At one point the sheriff deputy grabbed the student by the shirt and began to hit him in the face repeatedly with pepper spray.

WRAL was notified by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, that the incident is being reviewed. Investigators are currently doing their best to resolve the issue. They are currently trying to figure out the sheriff's intentions, whether the officer deliberately used the pepper spray to harm the student or as a method of self-defense.

The aftermath of the incident resulted in the 16-year-old being charged with resisting an officer and being in possession of marijuana.
