Cryptocurrency has taken the world by storm. The virtually mined form of money can be anonymously traded and was popular for use in the deep web, which is a virtual space that the average internet user cannot access. The most famous forms of cryptocurrency are Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Stellar, and Litecoin.

People who invested in cryptocurrencies years ago found themselves rich beyond their wildest dreams after the worth of the virtual money skyrocketed. For example, rapper 50 Cent allowed consumers to purchase his 2014 album Animal Ambition using Bitcoin. He made $400,000 of the cryptocurrency at the time, which is now estimated to be about $8,000,000. Forbes, who has published several cash-themed lists, such as the rapper based Cash Kings series, published their first ever richest people in cryptocurrency list on Wednesday.

The qualification to be on the Forbes' Richest People in Cryptocurrency list is at least $350 million. The ranking separates the wealthy investors into five categories: idealists, builders, opportunists, infrastructure players and establishment investors. There are nineteen people on the list, although Forbes counts Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss as one entry. In the article, author Jeff Kauflin writes, "There are now nearly 1,500 crypto-assets in existence, valued at an aggregate of $550 billion, up 31 times since the beginning of 2017."
