French Montana skipped town and headed to one of the world's biggest carnival celebrations in Trinidad this week, but not without tons of criticism. He was there to perform as part of "Machel Monday." It's one of the biggest events leading up to carnival, thrown by Soca star Machel Montano. French posted a picture of himself near Piarco Airport, draped in a fur coat on Instagram. He probably thought he was showing love to the island and didn't think the original caption would cause such a backlash.

"Immigration waiting for me when I landed in Trinidad. but much love to all the beautiful people in Trinidad we had a blast #3rdworld #dreamers," was what French posted to his IG pafe early Wednesday. This didn't sit well with many who took offense to being referred to as "third world."

"Really French??? Dreamers??? You rub one shoulder with Jay Z and Daz ur conduct? F*** you yuh mac**** dream #dreamdis"

"You never getting invited to the kingdom again," someone else commented.

"Wonder if he was lowkey dissing we," another user wrote.

However, others didn't think he was offensive.

"Love you down," one wrote.

"But um aren't we a 3rd world country? I don't see why we're offended," another stated.

Either way, he heard the first message loud and clear. French edited his caption, deleting "#3rdworld" from it.
