Dennis Edwards, the former lead singer of the Temptations from 1968 until 1977, died after complications of meningitis on Friday, February 2. Edwards' wife, Brenda, confirmed the news, adding that Dennis was diagnosed with the disease in May 2017.

Edwards was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with the Temptations in 1989 and he was given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys in 2013.

Smokey Robinson commented on the news, telling Rolling Stone, "It really saddens me to know that another Motown soldier is gone. Rest In Peace my brother. You were a great talent."

Edwards also scored a solo hit with "Don't Look Any Further," which was sampled on Eric B. and Rakim's "Paid in Full," 2Pac's "Hit 'Em Up," and Junior M.A.F.I.A.'s "Gettin Money (The Get Money Remix)."

Dennis is survived by his wife Brenda and his daughter, Issa Pointer, from his marriage to Ruth Pointer.
