Despite being the woman nominated for the most Grammys this year, Sza found herself leaving the award festivities emptyhanded.

On Sunday, the 2018 Grammy Awards highlighted the best in music over the last year. The star-studded event was made even more special with the diversity seen in many categories.

However, coming into the event, TDE songstress SZA found herself leading the pack when it comes to female artistry, picking up five nominations after dropping her critically acclaimed debut album CTRL in 2017. The singer was nominated for Best New Artist, Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Song, and Best Rap/Sung Performance.

Though the rising r&b singer was looked like a lock by fans of her music to take home a gold statue, SZA faced stiff competition going up against some formidable artists in specific categories, including Jay-Z, Bruno Mars, Khalid, The Weeknd, and TDE labelmate Kendrick Lamar.

Many held out hope that the sudden wave in the entertainment industry of calling out sexual harassment and assault would transfer into The Recording Academy shining some love to the long list of female artists nominated including SZA.

While many donned white roses in solidarity with the Time’s up movement, many female artists found themselves without awards for their musical efforts. However, this isn’t the first time a female artist was nominated enormously and walked away emptyhanded. Just last year, Rihanna was nominated for eight awards and won nothing.
