In this new socio-political climate, we've come across a multitude of headlines and stories where people in power have carelessly displayed their true intentions, spewed hate speech publicly, and recklessly paraded their xenophobic, sexist, and racist remarks. Which we have no problem with whatsoever, we have a responsibility as a community to get these individuals outta here and out of their positions of power, especially those who are teaching our children.

This particular story comes from the state of Florida in the centrally-located city of Sanford in Seminole County where a first-grade teacher at Hamilton Elementary School sent home a racially insensitive spelling list that featured the derogatory term directed at the black community in the 'n-word.'

According to the teacher, she accidentally added the slur to the list intending to add the word 'bigger' to the spelling list instead of the obvious 'n-word.' She also argued towards the school's administrative board that the letters 'N' and 'B' are right next to each other on the computer keyboard which is true but, according to the parent, Terry Day, the first-grade teacher who remains anonymous was unapologetic about the misspelling error.

The teacher responded to the concerned parent claiming that 'well, it is a word,' which shows reflects a dismissive attitude but, the proximity of the 'N' and 'B' on a keyboard can be the cause of what we're hoping was an honest mistake.

With that said, do you think this spelling list misspelling was an unintentional flub or a passive-aggressive tactic to spread hate speech?
