Earlier this month, many were alarmed when Hawaii's alert system sent a false report about a "ballistic missile threat." After the alert was issued to people's cell phones, the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency and Honolulu Police Department confirmed that there was no missile threat.

According to the Huffington Post, Hawaii's governor David Ige's statement was delayed because his staff handles his social media accounts. “I have to confess that I don’t know my Twitter account log-ons and the passwords, so certainly that’s one of the changes that I’ve made. I’ve been putting that on my phone so that we can access the social media directly", said Ige.

“It took time for the governor to contact us and give us the information before we could post it,” spokeswoman Cindy McMillan added. Ige says he has taken action to ensure the error does not happen again.
