Amid the ongoing sexual assault scandals currently plaguing Washington, D.C., a Republican senator was overheard on a hot microphone admiring the looks of a group of teenage Senate pages on Monday.

Roger Wicker, the junior senator from Mississippi, was speaking with New Jersey senator Cory Booker when a comment was made by Booker about a page being from one of the most beautiful places in the country, according to Wicker spokesperson Ryan Taylor.

"I thought you were going to say this was one of the most beautiful girls," responded Wicker while gesturing with his hands towards a group of female pages. "What about these others?"

Booker appeared to respond to Wicker's joke with a laugh.

According to the New York Daily News, the pages are typically high school juniors who spend one semester out of the school year working various jobs in Congress.

Wicker's spokesperson assured the Daily News that the senator's comment was "meant as a light-hearted jest."

Congress has lately been under intense scrutiny over multiple allegations of sexual misconduct made over the last several months, including revelations that led to Democratic Senator Al Franken resigning.
