Chicago's record-breaking five-day streak of no murderers came to an end on Saturday, January 20. The city, known for its high murder rate, experienced a rare calm between January 14-19, where there were zero reported murders. The last time the city had a similar streak was March 2017.

The streak was broken on Saturday, January 20 when a man waiting at a bus stop outside the 69th Street station was fatally shot. According to police, the bus patron was approached by a second man. The two got in a dispute and the man who had approached the bus patron shot him in the chest.

The second incidence of violence happened around 1am on Sunday, January 21, when a 19-year-old woman walking into a birthday part in Humboldt Park was shot by someone in a passing car. Two men, aged 24 and 21, and a second woman, aged 30, were all shot as well.

They 19-year-old woman was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. The other three victims were taken to Norwegian American Hospital, where their condition is listed as stable.

In the Belmont Central neighborhood, at 3 am, there was a double homicide where a 19-year-old man and 25-year-old-man were shot in the head and back, respectively. In total, there were four homicides and sixteen injured across Chicago within a 24-hour period.
