According to CBS News reports, a former CIA officer was arrested on Monday night for possession of classified documents. CIA Officer, Jerry Chun Shing Lee had flown in from Hong Kong, China to JFK Airport when policemen obtained Lee and the records.

According to a Justice Department press release, Lee and his family were under investigation since 2012. He and his family were moving out of Hong Kong to N. Virginia. The family made a few stops along the way, spending time in Hawaii as well as Virginia.

Until the court authorized FBI agents to search through Lee's belongings at the hotels they stayed at. However, their findings contained confidential information pertaining to the "national defense."

The US Department of Justice said that among the confidential papers were journals that contained classified and covert information with contact information of several assets, CIA employees, meeting locations and facility locations.

When Lee arrived in NY, he was charged with 'unlawful retention of national defense information.' If condemned he will receive at most a sentence of 10 years behind bars. U.S. Officials reported to CBS News reporters that Lee had fled the country between the time of his interviews with FBI and before their attempt to arrest him.
