Hip Hop entrepreneur Damon Dash, also known as Dame Dash, took to Instagram to honor the late Aaliyah on Tuesday, January 16. Today would have been the R&B star's 39th birthday, but her life was tragically cut short in a plane crash in the Bahamas on August 25, 2001. Dame Dash was dating the singer at the time of her death. The pair had met in 1999 and dated until her death. The 46-year old Dash has gone on record to say that he and Aaliyah were not engaged, but did plan to marry.
Dash posted a photo of himself and Aaliyah, captioning the image, "I celebrate your life every day...nothing will ever change...we appreciated every second together..I’m so glad you knew exactly how I felt while you were here and I was able to tell you...I feel you watching over me every day...and your influence is everywhere..will always love you happy birthday!"
Dame Dash is best known as JAY-Z's partner in establishing Roc-A-Fella Records before the company was sold to Def Jam, and their business relationship was severed. He was also married to JAY-Z's rumored mistress, Rachel Roy, from 2005 - 2009.
