Four law enforcement agents from South Carolina are recovering from gunshot wounds they sustained during a six-hour long standoff with a domestic violence suspect who turned his weapon on them in the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 16.

Deputies from the local Sheriff's Office were called to respond to a disturbance at a York home around 10 p.m. According to the emergency call, the male resident in the location was heard hitting the woman occupying the house.

By the time they arrived, the suspect (identified as 47-year-old Christian Thomas McCall) had fled the scene by foot. But thanks to the help of police dogs, authorities were eventually able to track McCall down. Unfortunately, they only became aware that they had encountered the assailant after he fired a shot that hit the deputy handling the dogs, shortly after 1 a.m.

The injured deputy would soon receive back up and before long McCall was surrounded. At around 3:30 a.m. he began firing again, thereby initiating a gun battle that left two more deputies and a York officer wounded. McCall was also shot in the exchange. In total, three deputies and an officer were hit. Two of the injured were airlifted to a nearby hospital and the others, including McCall, were transported by vehicle.

News about the condition of each respective officer has not been released to the public. McCall is currently in police custody on charges pending.
