The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s office is under fire from the widower of late porn actress August Ames, who claims employees of the office “released confidential and private information regarding the death of [Ames] to media outlets.”
Kevin Moriarty and the estate of Ames, real name Mercedes Grabowski, have filed a $5 million claim with the Ventura County Board of Supervisors against the medical examiner's office for divulging "salacious personal information" about Ames after her suicide, including where and how she killed herself and what was written in her suicide note.
The claim comes a little over a month after Ames was found deceased in a public park about 20 minutes away from her Camarillo, Calif. home. The Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office ruled her death to be asphyxia from hanging.
Moriarty claims in the suit that the release of the details surrounding Ames' death has caused him emotional and mental distress resulting in medical bills.
If Moriarty and Ventura County aren't able to come to an agreement over his $5 million claim, the next step will be an actual lawsuit.
In a letter posted last week, Moriarty blamed Ames' death on bullying.
“I write this to make it crystal clear: Bullying took her life. If the harassment had not occurred, she would be alive today,” he said.
