Bam Margera was arrested for driving under the influence Sunday morning, according to TMZ.

The Jackass star and pro skateboarder was pulled over and arrested by California Highway Patrol officers around 8 a.m. on Sunday in Los Angeles.

Officer Juan Galvan, a public information officer with the CHP’s Southern Division, tells PEOPLE that officers were in the middle of stopping someone else when they observed the 38-year-old on his cell phone as he drove slowly by, prompting them to flag him down.

It was then that "they noticed signs of possible intoxication and conducted standard field sobriety tests,” Galvan said. “[Margera] was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.”

Margera was released from jail a little after 2:30 p.m. later that same day after posting $15,000 bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

While this is Margera's first DUI arrest, he's been open in the past about his struggles with addiction and substance abuse.

He spoke with PEOPLE in September about getting back into skateboarding after years of alcohol abuse, saying the sport helped him move on from his drinking problems.

“I took a five-year hiatus from skating because I had bone spurs, so instead I was making money by doing nightclub appearances, which basically was shooting photos and taking shots with the locals,” he said. “So I was s**tbag wasted every night, and eventually was like, ‘This has to stop.’ Once I woke up in my own puke and p*ss, I knew I had to cut it off.”
