While some people are surprised that Montana of 300 hasn't signed with a label, the Chicago rapper revealed on Instagram that labels aren't the route that he's looking to take.

He detailed his decision in a series of Instagram posts and explained that things would've been different if he were signed. Montana wrote, "If I woulda signed to a major record label back in 2014, 2015, 2016 or 2017 i woulda been on @XXL freshman cover. When U r independent, U have 2 be ready 2 be ON YOUR OWN. Don’t expect love, help or acknowledgment from anybody. Focus on stackin yo money n doing what YOU do best."

Montana revealed that he's glad he didn't sign, adding that he feels he would've been more unhappy and stressed out.

"But on the inside, I’d be unhappy as fuck cuz I’m in debt, getting ran around like a robot to make my label their money back, told what to do and can barely spend time with my kids. Smiling in your faces on the internet, but miserable behind closed doors and telling all my family that i shouldn’t have ever signed."
