Nicki Minaj's debut album, Pink Friday dropped on November 19, 2010. Despite the Young Money princess's album featuring hip-hop heavyweights like Drake, Eminem, and Kanye West, there was surprisingly no feature from Lil Wayne the Young Money boss and mentor of the Queens rapper. On the seventh anniversary of the album this past week Nicki revealed why Weezy was missing in action and also prompted up the project's accolades.

Wayne's absence from the project wasn't made by choice. During the recording process and release of the album, Lil Wayne was incarcerated at Rikers Island for gun charges. “My mentor Lil Wayne couldn’t be on my debut album due to a gun charge in NY,” Nicki revealed in an Instagram post. “That had me f*cked up @ the time.”

In previous interviews, Nicki reveals that Wayne didn't even know the title of her album and was confused when fans sent him letters speaking about Pink Friday. Nonetheless, the album was a success Hip hop release it is now triple platinum. It should 375K units the first week which is impressive since it dropped the same day as Kanye's critically-acclaimed My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album. Pink Friday would go on to hit No. 1 on the charts some weeks later.

When released Wayne would appear in Nicki's subsequent projects in 2012 (Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded) and 2014 (The Pinkprint). Nicki hasn't revealed any details on when her forthcoming project will be released but in her post, she said "we're about to do it all over again," while thanking her fans for the continued support.
