According to reports, a 61-year-old teacher’s aide in Staten Island named David Pologruto accused of hitting an 11-year-old boy on the hand. Police noted that the incident took place at PS 48 around 8 a.m., and was caught on camera The footage found the man hitting the special education student on the hand which resulted in the child crying. A witness on the scene also told police that Pologruto hit the young boy in the back of his head. Police noted that Pologruto hitting the child in the back of the head was not caught on camera.

Because of that incident, police arrested Pologruto around 11:30 a.m. and charged him with child endangerment and assault. The incident that took place on Wednesday resulted in the school releasing a statement to clear up the chaos surrounding the situation.

Education Department spokesperson Douglas Cohen issued a statement, saying “There is no place for this alleged behavior in our schools and Mr. Pologruto was immediately suspended without pay. The troubling incident is being investigated and we will ensure that appropriate follow-up action is taken.”
