Photographs of Sammy Sosa in London have reared up on the internet and the baseball great's name is trending as a result.

Sosa was last seen in public during a television spot that aired during the ESPY Awards back in July. Hecklers compared Sosa to the Pink Panther and a bottle of Peptol Bismol, referring to the coral colored top hat and his pink collared shirt. The recent pictures show a hatless Sosa, showing off his slick-backed hair, leaning on a street lamp and doing the dab.

Sosa, 48, was first seen with a lightened skin tone in 2009. In an interview with Univision’s Primer Impacto, he admitted to applying a cream that both softened and bleached his skin nightly before bed. But he was adamant in denying that any internalized identity issues might have played a hand in him embracing the practice, stating, "I’m not a racist, I live my life happily.”

Fans of the former home run king recall him coming over to the United States in the late 1980's as a dark-skin Dominican with a Jheri curl. Many longtime fans have struggled to accept the newer, fairer-skinned Sammy as the man who for a time bridged the gap between African American and Afro-Latino athletes and sports enthusiasts.
