Fans at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and viewers watching at home couldn't help but turn their heads away from Chicago's NFL matchup against New Orleans. The discomfort comes the 5:50 mark of the third quarter.

Looking to close the gap on a 14-3 deficit, Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky tossed a pass from 33 yards out and found his tight end Zach Miller in the end zone. While it appeared that Miller hauled the ball in for a catch, the referees opted to call for a review of the play, which in slow motion revealed the magnitude of the injury Miller suffered to his knee as he came down.

Miller wound up beating Saints safety Rafael Bush in coverage and had a clean shot at the ball. To the naked eye, he cradled the ball into his body for an over the shoulder snag, then rolled over on the ground having never lost possession. But the officials obviously thought different, as they'd go on to overturn the call for an incomplete pass. The call was controversial, but most ultimately found themselves more concerned with the status of Miller's health. The replays also captured the instance his knee buckled awkwardly, and folded backward under the weight of his body.

Miller would be carted off after spending several minutes on the ground with team medical personnel. He was diagnosed with a dislocated knee, and placed on the Bears' injury reserve for the third time in four seasons. Last season the 33-year-old veteran's season ended with a broken foot, as it had in 2014. He completes his 2017 campaign with 20 catches for 236 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
